We're excited to announce that the first Bearwood Handmade event of 2012 will be on Saturday 10th March. It will be in the same place (St Mary's Church Hall) but we'll have two whole rooms of local artisans with tables full of gorgeously handmade products.

The flyers are being delivered locally now and distrubuted further afield by some of our very talented stall holders, so if you're lucky enough to get your hands on one you'll be able to admire the work of the amazing Erin Power, who designed these beauties. See you soon.

Well, Erin has outdone herself. Feast your eyes on the gorgeous flyer she has designed for our winter markets this year. They'll be popping through letterboxes and appearing on noticeboards all around Bearwood in the next few weeks. And we'll be featuring some of the incredible designers, makers, artisans and bakers on this blog too. Bearwood is in for a real treat this Christmas.

I like to take 'found' items and make them into something new and unique to wear and love. I use scrabble pieces, dominoes, lego, dice, buttons, tape measures and anything else I can find! I also make a range of frames and recycled record bowls."

next up is amanda...

"My name is Amanda and I am a self-confessed lover and hoarder of bags!  My love of making them is more recent and was inspired by some fabulous COW workshops that I attended at the Custard Factory last year.  My kind parents bought me a sewing machine for my birthday and I have been enjoying a stitching frenzy ever since!

On 9th April I will be selling lovingly made handmade bags: tote bags, bucket bags, messenger bags... using bold and vibrant fabric.  Stylish, practical bags at peachy prices!  I look forward to seeing you on the 9th..."

mother and daughter stall holders, barbara and eliza are next...

"Black horse Gifts sells a range of carved and painted wooden pictures for hanging or standing on surfaces made by local artist Barbara Neave who describes her work as 'inspired by nature and by folk art'. She uses locally sourced wood in her work, which she carves & decorates using a mixture of acrylics & pyrography [burnt work] to create different effects. She also sells a range of home-made jams & chutneys.

'The White Flamingo' sells items at local fairs & through our Facebook group 'The White Flamingo'. We work from home producing hand-made and unique items which we sell locally. We aim to offer good quality items at a reasonable price and believe that we provide something different to items on the market already. We are inspired by vintage style, our cats, popular culture, films & music. We sell hand-made felt brooches including our character 'cats' range & tattoo inspired 'loveheart' brooches. We also have our own range of 'corkies' which are hand-painted champagne cork people inspired by well known characters such as Super cork, Cork Guevara, & Leprecork. We also sell hand-made cards based on original paintings & photographs."

here's marie to tell us about herself....
Crochet3

"My mother taught me to knit and crochet when I was small. I hadn’t touched a crochet hook in over 20 years until I was travelling in 2010 and I bought a hook and a ball of yarn from a tiny wool shop in Ho Chi Minh City. After hours of practising I became a bit obsessed with all things crochet and now I have my online shop where I sell my handmade earrings, pendant necklaces, hairclips and brooches."

kiran from kjmakes is another talented bearwoodian at the fair...

Turquoise

"What can I say I love making stuff always have since I was a little girl and always hope to. I love jewellery and I'm always on the look out for the next bit of treasure I can get, but now I hunt out beads and make treasure for others to collect. My motto is to be Bright. Fun. Colourful and Inspire others."

and keeping the bearwood flag flying is madeline...

"I am multidisciplinary artist Madeline Norris aka meeni.
Bunnies
I delight in using a variety of materials and working in different media. I love using thrifted and vintage materials and reuse and recycle whenever possible. I create original paintings, collages, 3D works and knitted and sewn textile pieces. I also make jewellery incorporating my own handmade glass beads. For I heart Bearwood in the Springtime I have made some special Spring/Easter themed items. Srapity Bagit is the work of craftswoman D.J. Norris. She will be bringing some knitted goodies, bunting and bags to the fair."

now let me introduce one of our very own, ceri, crafty mutha extraordinaire...

bore da and allow me to introduce myself.  I am a crafty mutha, and I make things under the guise of "Lili of the Valleys Emporium" or LOVE.  You see you can take the girl from the valleys...etc etc. and my lovely girl is called Lili so it just seemed fitting. After the Handmade Christmas event I vowed to rein myself in and only have a small, choice selection of goodies on sale this Spring fair, but true to form my enthusiasm gets the better of me, and if I promise you one thing, it's that my stall will be varied and colourful! Here is a sneak preview of what I will have on offer at I Heart Bearwood in the Springtime:
My Julie Walters dahlias.  Each named after a character Julie Walters has played.  Now available in a soft spring palette of colours, each petal cut out by hand and glued.....!
My Bearwood bunny brigade.  These little beauties take me an AGE to make, and so they are as a consequence a limited edition run!  They will be available with a complimentary creme egg and plastic egg cup, presented in a cellophane bag finished with ribbon, ready to give to that special person at Easter!
If you are a little more trad in your egg-warming tastes, then I offer you the hand finished fabric n felt cosy, in many different colourways.
For the Spring magpies I will have a selection of earrings, rings and hairclips in juicy shades, and some one-off pieces like the scrabble rings and the shrink plastic charm bracelets I blogged about before.
Little misses (and big ones too!) will love the felt rose hair clips - lots more colours to come (I've just got to invent another few hours in an evening to finish them!).
And finally a cake stand full of knitted and crocheted goodies!  No-knot little scarves, perfect for the spring days when you'd like to believe the cold has finally left us, but by jiminy no, there it is creeping up on us! Plus some cute wristwarmers for crop sleeve jackets (or brave no-coat brigade!), and some crocheted egg cosies which will also come with creme egg and egg cup.
Also the fabric kiddies' tote bags as an alternative to Easter egg baskets, but useful all year round, and the cute owl bibs I already blogged about!  Probably loads more if I don't actually sleep between now and next Saturday...  Come along and say hello, and bring your friends and neighbours too!  Ceri x

A Handmade Christmas in Bearwood

Christmas_flyer_6_copy_large
we'd just like to say a big thank you to all of the stallholders and customers who helped make 'a handmade christmas in bearwood' the most successful event ever held anywhere ever. believe it or not, that's how we felt at the end of that fantastic day, 20th november 2010. our stallholders were all on top form and there was such an array of handmade gorgeousness and the good people of bearwood and beyond literally swamped the hall all day long. the community spirit was there in force, old friends catching up, new friendships created and a whole lot of christmas gift buying too. once again thank you. keep watching this space - i'm pretty sure we'll be back, even bigger and better in 2011.
